1. Who We Are
SpotIt ("we," "our," or "us") is an AI-powered fact-checking tool available at tryspotit.com. SpotIt is operated by a solo founder. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at hello@tryspotit.com.
2. What Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Content you submit for fact-checking (text, images, or screenshots you upload)
- Your email address if you sign up for our waitlist or newsletter
- Your name if you provide it during signup
- Payment information if you subscribe to SpotIt Plus (processed by Stripe — we never see your card details)
Information collected automatically
- Your IP address (used solely for rate limiting — 5 free checks per day per IP)
- The date and time of your requests
- Basic usage data such as how many fact-checks you've run
- Browser type and device type (standard web server logs)
We do not build user profiles, sell your data to advertisers, or track you across other websites. SpotIt has no advertising business model.
3. How We Use Claude AI
SpotIt is powered by Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic. When you submit content for fact-checking, that content is sent to Anthropic's API for analysis. This means:
- Your submitted content is transmitted to Anthropic's servers for processing
- Anthropic's own Privacy Policy applies to how they handle API data
- We do not store your submitted content on our servers after the check is complete
- AI-generated verdicts are returned to you in real time and are not permanently stored by SpotIt
Do not submit content that contains sensitive personal information (social security numbers, passwords, financial account numbers, medical records) — treat SpotIt like any AI tool.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the SpotIt fact-checking service
- To enforce our rate limits (5 free checks per day)
- To send you product updates if you subscribed to our newsletter (you can unsubscribe any time)
- To process SpotIt Plus subscription payments via Stripe
- To improve the service and fix bugs
- To comply with legal obligations
5. Cookies & Local Storage
SpotIt uses browser local storage (not cookies) to remember your session preferences and usage count for rate limiting. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising pixels.
If we add analytics tools in the future (such as PostHog), this policy will be updated and you will see a notice on the site.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We share data only with:
- Anthropic — to process your fact-check requests via their Claude API
- Vercel — our hosting provider, which processes web requests and logs
- Upstash — our Redis database provider, which stores rate-limit counters and queue data
- Stripe — our payment processor, if you subscribe to SpotIt Plus
- Law enforcement — if required by valid legal process
7. Data Retention
- Rate limit counters reset daily and are not tied to personal identity
- Email addresses on our waitlist are kept until you unsubscribe
- Submitted fact-check content is not stored by SpotIt after your session
- Stripe retains payment records per their own retention policies
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Ask us to delete your data
- Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in any email we send
- Contact us with any privacy concern at hello@tryspotit.com
9. Children's Privacy
SpotIt is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
10. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit. API keys and credentials are stored as environment variables and never exposed to the browser. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure — please don't submit highly sensitive personal information through SpotIt.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the product grows. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll send a notice to subscribers. Continued use of SpotIt after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
